Preheating by Gas Cutting Torch

Preheating of Steels in Welding is being carried out sometimes. This preheating is done to achieve

- To aid the fusion of welding
- To remove the moisture
- To slowdown the cooling rate
- To reduce thermal gradient difference
- To reduce the HAZ hardness
- To reduce the HAZ width
- To minimise the risk of Hydrogen crack
- To reduce the distortion

Preheating can be applied in many ways such as Preheating Torch burners, Induction heating, Thermocouple Heating, etc

However the Preheating SHALL NOT be done with Gas Cutting Torch. WHY???!!!

API EXAM QUESTIONS & DURATION CHANGED!!!

API has done some changes in the examination process for API 510, 570 and 653 exams. There are TWO changes have been made

1) The examination question will 150, but the examination scoring will be done based on 125 Questions. 25 Questions will not be considered for Scoring. The candidates will not be given information about these 25 Questions !!!

2) The total examination Hours will be 7 hours instead of 8 Hours. Open Book Exam- 4 hours and Closed Book Exam- 3 Hours

These changes are effective from 5th December 2012 examination onward.
